Just Do Something

I am a Redskins fan. The Redskins spend their offseason trying to make a splash. Dan Snyder goes after the biggest names and pulls money out of his ass to pay for them and still stays under the cap. I realize that this doesn't always work, but we made the playoffs 2 out of the last 4 years. As an Oriole fan, I want to see the team make a splash, but I know it's not that easy. Peter Angelos has the money to compete with the Yankees, but he won't spend it. Why should he? The fans don't show up and they hate him. Most fans would respond by saying, "If they would start winning, we would go." I say that we are close. The Orioles minor league system is one of the tops in baseball. Most of the team is young. Winning will come soon...I hope!

Big Suprise...Teixeira a Yankee

As I'm watching Outside The Lines on ESPN, I see on the Bottom Line that Mark Teixeira has signed an 8 year $180 million contract with the New York Yankees. I can take this two ways. First, Why didn't we go all in? Why does New York take everything good from Baltimore? Are we ever going to win again? How could we let him go? This way of thinking is stupid. In the past, the O's signed big names like Albert Bell, Miguel Tejada, or Javy Lopez. Remember how that turned out? The other way of thinking is better. Andy McPhail knows what he is doing. He is slowly building a team for the future. The bullpen consists of an All-Star closer who costs less than a million a year. He cleared the way for the Matt Weiters to become the next super star in baseball. Instead of having $23 million a year on Teixeira, the Orioles have the money to strengthen their pitching. I am not mad that about this deal, but the Orioles need to make sure they no what they are doing.
